Sea Tuckers Junior Jazz Ensemble (July/August 2010)

MUSICWORKS student Olivia Bouler is more than just a saxophonist.  With family in Alabama and a frequent visitor to the shore, Olivia was horrified when the BP oil spill destroyed wildlife across the Gulf of Mexico.  Her plea to the Audobon Society ended with a simple phrase, "11 years old and willing to help."  $175,000 later, Olivia's grassroots fundraising effort is one of the most incredible stories you could imagine! (click here for more details)

To celebrate her achievements, MUSICWORKS ran a Junior Jazz Ensemble clinic in Long Island, NY this summer.  The 8 piece ensemble (aided by saxophonist Jon Pereira) comprised of mixed ages and abilities worked on jazz fundamentals, free improvising, group interplay, and different styles.  A culminating concert at the Sea Tuck Preserve in Islip NY was a fantastic opportunity for the group (now affectionately named the "Sea Tuckers") to show off their skills--complete with a marching band parade entrance!

Congrats to Liv, Brian, Alex, Jax, Thomas, and Jimmy for all of their hard work.
Special thanks to Nadine Palumbo whose vision and support made this workhsop possible.
